Thanksgiving: A United States holiday commemorated by adults traveling back to their hometowns, enjoying their family for a while, exhausting most conversational possibilities after a day, becoming bored senseless, realizing that there’s still three more days left in the weekend, meeting up with old friends who are also in town for the weekend and similarly bored, learning that absolutely no nearby bars or coffee shops are open (or exist), and realizing that the only thing to do is to drink their parents’ liquor and play Euchre like naughty high-schoolers, except that they were too nerdy to drink their parents’ liquor in high school, so they’re doing it at age 27 instead when it’s far less cool and rebellious but far more obvious as the best choice they have at the moment to pass the time and enjoy themselves.

Ohio Thanksgiving Dinner

This was my first Thanksgiving away from my family.  But it was also my first Thanksgiving with my new family.  So it was a meal of new traditions and foods.  First on the menu was Jesus soup made with a half decade old bottle of holy water… yup, you heard me.

For the main meal we had a turkey that was brined in maple syrup and then smoked, oyster stuffing (we found a pearl while eating it), heavenly hash, sweet potato casserole, Marco’s mom’s everything-but-the-kitchen-sink stuffing, and two kinds of cranberry sauce.

It was a lovely, satisfying meal full of new holiday flavors and laughs that can only be had around a family table.

But there is still an empty place in my belly that can only be filled by a stuffin’ muffin.

This is still the funniest video on the internet.  Period.

Thinking About Maybe Making Plans?

I want to have some kind of party where guests dress up kind of fantsy retro style.  I want to decorate our apartment.  I also want to cook, but not tons.  Maybe pot-luck holiday retro pictionary party night with the Arments?  Maybe.  Thinking about it.  Maybe. We need a house.

I made butternut squash soup tonight.  Prep took a long time.  Probably because I was watching Law and Order while peeling and chopping.

Clementine Vintage Clothing

On the active but petite Main Street where my parents live and where we had our wedding last year, there are a few very special shops that I can’t pass by without at least a peek inside. I’ve had it on my to-do list for a while to highlight a few of these charming businesses.

This bright and sunny vintage boutique is located at 7 Main Street in Andes, New York in the Catskill region.  They are open Saturdays, Sundays and holiday Mondays from 10AM to 6PM. This beautiful collection changes seasonally and new pieces show up every week. With pieces ranging from $25 to $75, and accessories as low as $5, this little vintage corner store is a great place to pick up a perfect condition piece without second guessing the price.

Clementine also carries children’s clothing (0-14), men’s apparel, lingerie, and home furnishings.

Single Strength Vanilla
35% alcohol. Pure extract from the highest quality 100% premium Madagascar “Bourbon Islands” vanilla beans. These beans have a rich and complex, smooth, true flavor. The cool-perking process retains the bean’s full flavor, along with all of the desirable vanilla side notes. With over 400 flavor components in every high-quality vanilla bean, artificial vanilla (which contains only one-synthetic vanillin) will never come close to matching the wonderful richness of pure vanilla extract. This extract is 10% stronger than the pure vanilla extract sold in supermarkets, and has the great Madagascar flavor.
